sketches of the final form

After reflecting on existing buildings in the commonwealth area ive decided to do the form sketched below.
its like a finger reaching out to the public from the land. i like how it is low and will respect the existing language. Panoramic views will become optimal in this form. HAPPY!

Team Meeting Doodles.

At work today we had a team meeting which allowed me to doodle up some ideas of the next assignment. I was focusing on
1. Public
2. Media
3. Parliament
I want to express how we can place public before parliament and not wash everything with a media story.
I like the idea that Parliament is the land, public is the water, and media is the bridge between.

Existing Anaylsis

The Blue line shows the waters edge and the importance of it as people walk along there

The Red line indicates Parliament Line of sight - symbol

The Green Line indicates where the worlds flags line the waters edge

The Purple Circle shows where the design muesum is

The Yellow Circle shows where the water front restaurant is

The Yellow Triangle shows where the PROPOSED site it.

distribute services

did sketch this morning and thought about distributing each service area of parliament, and coming up with lil images to reflect this. Like the Olympics and how they have images for each sport. Just an idea.

Reflection of water

I want to show off the reflections of water in the building and how that provides transparency into political activities but the building seems to go into the water like a bunker - which parliament house already is.

Stuck on Triangles

Need to talk to cameron because im super stuck with still doing triangles and i dont think it works with the context around the commonwealth place site.

Triangle Framed Sketches

I am really stuck on the idea of using a triangle as it represents:
each point of the triangle is either public, media, parliament
the triangle re-states the power of the parliamentary triangle.

Problems thou are that a Triangle doesnt frame the view as i want it too
and the existing triangle is super powerful so do i really need to put a triangle in a triangle???

Oslo Opera House

The roof leads straight into the water and people can freely access, swim, boat straight into the building forecourrt.
Im going to use this idea of leading straight into the water on the flipside of the frame and projector area of the soap box.

The Actual Triangle

The triangle is broken down in department of uses in the below image.
The SOAP Box will bridge between the parliament group and the recreational group - a place for Activist to 'bridge the gap' as well.

Image from Canberra in the 21st C

the POWER of the TRIANGLE

Canberra has the omipresent triangle representing the power of parliament projected across aspects of the city.
its interesting to overlay the same triangle in the parliament city of London which Australia's system is based from. And they too have a view over WATER.

these diagrames are from the book Canberra the nations Capital in the 21s C

Canberra does draw a Crowd....

...when the queen comes to town
opposing this is the same view, one month earlier...

The problem is how do we activate Canberra's water life on any day when the Queen isnt in town.
How do we make it a place of interest, a place of action, a place reflecting Parliaments pressence in the city.

Design Idea: SOAP BOX

The purose / function of my proposed design is a SOAP BOX

This will provide a public link between the parliament and the biased Media.

Urban Beach - O+A

Urban Beach exemplifies the idea of taking three functions, merging together and resulting in a simple installation which effectively portrays the presence of the space and gives the people a PLATFORM!

Hong Kong Design Institute by CAAU: FRAME

I really like the following buildings design for framing and the strength it has in the configuration.
It has powerful foundations and a strength that should be recognisable in a parliamentary building like my proposed Soap Box.

Power of Three

Plasma Studios (one of my all time favourite studios) have designed the 2011 Xi’an International Horticultural Expo.

On the water it uses THREE 'boxes' to capture the outlook to water. Similiar to my idea of the three sections :
PUBLIC, MEDIA, PARLIAMENT

Cameron's Great Advice

Thank you to my tutor Cameron for suggesting REX: Joshua Prince-Ramus and his great ideas on flexible space organisation.

The theatre transforms seemingly effortlessly to a range of traditional configurations. A truly adaptive experience and also highlights the site specific design by allowing the outside environment in to the theatre space.

Another Reason to Love Bartlett School Of Architecture..

The above design is by a student Catrina Stewart : London City Farmhouse.
It reminds me a lot of archigram work in the past has alot of interesting ways to combat future power problems eg - donating human faeces and urine to produce methane gas.

I love that arch school!

Moving Design on Water

I am still undecided whether i want my soap box design to move with the water or not.

An example in London where the tide is a lot more variable then on Lake burley Griffen is the:

The video is a must watch! very impressive example of movable, interactive design.

Bridge Design

I'll upload my sketches sooon...

But i found this design which has the same sense of flow i was after - the bringing together of different elements in a cohesive manner?

Foster + Partners appointed to design Slussen Masterplan in Central Stockholm.

Canteen

I just love this idea of a mobile canteen - not directly related to my design assignment at hand thou.

It's by a Japanese firm Aberrant Architecture

Rotate Functions

After Explaining my design Concept to Alex Dickinson he forwarded me onto the Multi Mill by NL Architects

The Design has three public functions - runway, theatre and seating.
Depending on the function at hand the design can rotate to focus on a different view across the harbour.

I had discussed using the view to Distribute the function of the space.
